Disciplinary Committee

The Council has a powerful three member Disciplinary Committee headed by a Councilor. This committee has the mandate under the Law to investigate and punish the law practitioners for violating the code of conduct prescribed for their professional behavior. When the committee receives complaint or information about the violation of the code of conduct by a law practitioner, it initiates investigation and if an apparent violation is found, it may issue a notice for explanation from the alleged violator. If the Committee feels that the action should not be taken, it must notify this to the complainant giving adequate reasons thereof. The working of this committee remains confidential until the punishment is decided. The nature of the punishment varies from admonition to temporary suspension of the License for practice to conciliation of the License.
There is a provisions in the Act that the violator who is not satisfied with the punishment imposed upon him, may file an appeal before the Supreme Court of Nepal.
